About Us

The Cherubim and Seraphim Church is a Pentecostal Christian Organisation which was founded in Nigeria in 1925

ST. MOSES ORIMOLADE TUNOLASE – THE SOLE FOUNDER AND SUPREME HEAD OF CHERUBIM AND SERAPHIM ORGANISATION AND FIRST ALADURA CHURCH IN NIGERIA (1925 – 1933)

Saint Moses Orimolade Tunolase was born in Ikare in the year 1879. He was the third out of the six children from his mother Madam Abigail Odijorotan Tunolase. Ironically, his father Pa Tunolase was a native doctor. From the moment Odijorotan conceived her third child she saw several signs and indications that this child she would bring forth would not be an ordinary child. While in the womb, Odijorotan noticed that the baby in her womb do talk and gave her a helping hand at the farm to lift up firewood and placed it on her head. At birth the child stood up and attempted to walk. The midwife was terribly stunned, pull him down and placed her foot on the feet of the new born child to prevent him from moving. All these efforts made by the midwife and his father to stop him walk at birth caused injuries to his leg and he had difficulty in walking. His family and the whole town could not comprehend his mysterious birth and the strange things that happened during his childhood days.

Hardly had the excitement aroused by the incidents experienced at his birth subsided that he became the centre of attention again. This time the scene was in the only Church in town, Ikare, St. Stephen’s Anglican Church, which belonged to the C. M. S. Mission. The minister of the Church, Rev. J. K. Ayaji-Ajagbe, was attracted to the scene on this particular night by an apparent illumination of the Church interior, and by the melodious songs that was going on there. It was puzzling to him that anyone could be using the building at that time of the night without his knowledge. He decided to investigate and the door opened of its own volition. To his great amazement, the whole building was empty except for a small-child of about eight years sitting on the floor in a kind of bright phosphorescent illumination. It occurred to the shocked minister that the child singing as it were a host of heaven was Orimolade. As a result of this encounter, the minister persuaded his congregation to employ Orimolade to teach them some spiritual songs with the hope of seeing the angels that sang with him. The boy obliged and taught them a few religious songs, but they soon gave up because there was “no light and there were no voices of angels singing with him”. The said Rev. J. K. Ayaji-Ajagbe later preached publicly in the name of C & S. Orimolade became disillusioned by the unco-operative attitude of the Christians in Ikare, especially because they ridiculed him on account of his disability. He felt apprehensive about the success of his mission since it appeared likely that he would have to carry his cross with his physical challenge. Overwhelmed by this thought, h conthe prayed passionately one night, asking for manifestation of God’s power in his ministry. In answer to this prayer, an angel of God appeared to him in a dream and gave him three objects: a Rod, Royal Insignia and Crown. The rod signified “staff of victory”; the insignia was “the power of efficacy of prayer and speaking”; and the crown stood for “honour and respect”. In his dream he was taught by the Holy Spirit how to read and memorize the Holy Bible. After this encounter, Orimolade began his missionary journey in 1915. He left Ikare and his missionary journey took him to Lokoja, Jos, Zaria, Kano and later down to Ilorin, Oshogbo until he arrived Lagos in July 1924. He first stayed at Ebute Ero Anglican C. M.S. Church personage, Lagos. From where he moved in September to the farm plantation of Chief J. K. Coker, the founder of the African Church at Agege. In December 1924 he moved to the residence of Chief J. K. Coker at No. 10 Balogun Square, Lagos. He did many miraculous things that neutralized the evil works of witches and wizards, masqueraders, herbalists through the preaching of the gospel. He intensified his preaching of the gospel in Lagos and quoted the Holy Bible freely to the amazement of his followers who had grown to large number. On 10th May 1925, Orimolade moved from 10 Balogun Square, Lagos to a more spacious place at Kester Lane in Agoshofin, Lagos the residence of Alhaji Momo Giwa where he continued his spiritual works with his group who were known as “Egbe Aladura”. On 18th June 2025, Miss Christiana Abiodun Akinsowon went to Campus Square to watch the annual “Corpus Christi by the Roman Catholic Church”. While she fixed her eyes on the chalice carried by the Roman Catholic Bishop she fell into trance and was unconscious for days. No one could cure her and she divinely revealed that Baba Moses Orimolade should be invited. Her guardians, Mr. Hunnu Moite and Mrs. Malomo (Iya Ibeji) went and pleaded with Baba Orimolade to come and heal her who was ill as a result of the strange being she saw. She was healed and she became one of the followers and spiritual daughter of Baba Moses Orimolade Tunolase. The number of his followers increased and it became necessary to name the Organisation. On the 9th of September 1925, after the members had fasted and prayed for three days concerning the name that would be given to the church, at about 9am on that day at Agoshofin, Lagos the founder named the Christian Organisation “the Band of SERAPH”. On 29th of September 1925, Baba Orimolade named “HOLY MICHAEL” as Captain of the Holy Order. On 26th day of March, 1926 the name “CHERUB” was added. It became known as “Cherubim and Seraphim Band”. The Holy Order spread very quickly and was opened at Ebute-Metta (November 1925); Agege and Egba District (February 1926); Shagamu (March 1926); Ijebu- Ode, Ibadan, Abeokuta, Oshogbo and Ondo (April 1927); Ile-Ife and Ijabe (1928); and Ilaje (December 1929). Baba Orimolade organized the praying Band on 13th December 1925. In 1926, Baba organized the Twelve Patriarchs (Baba Nla Mejila Band), Army of Salvation Band, the Esther Band, and Fogo Olorun Han Band. On 27th November 1927 Baba selected 70 disciples - 45 brothers and 25 sisters. The Martha and Mary Bands were organized by Baba in 1928. On 8th March 1929, Baba Orimolade took Miss Christiana Abiodun Akinsowon to the Police station to separate her as member of the Holy Order due to her rude behaviour and being engineered to be recognised as co-founder which was declined by the founder. On 27th May 1929, Ita Balogun branch under Late Elder E. A Davies broke away from the Holy Order. Baba Aladura Moses Orimolade later ordained the Aladura with special designed three corner caps in 1930. Various crowns have thereafter been designed for the Elders of the Holy Order. On the 20th August 1931 Baba named “HOLY GABRIEL” as Vice-Captain of the Holy Order. During this period, Baba moved from one place to another living with different people. From the time the Holy Order was named in 1925, when he was living with Momo Giwa at Aghosofin, he went to live in the house of Mr. Holloway at Martins Street in June 1926. In April 1927, he moved to the house of W. A. Dawodu at Egerton Road. By October1928, Baba moved to the house of Ezekiel Davies at Balogun Street where he lived until May 1929 when he moved to Offin Canal as a result of the dispute. He left there to live at No. 42 Daddy Alaja in September 1929 where he lived for 4 years. Notwithstanding all these movements, Baba Aladura Moses Orimolade was able to register the Holy Order under Company Ordinance Cap. 18 as RC. 316 on the 14th February 1930. In December 1931, Baba ordained the first Three-Titled Mothers - Mrs. A. Bickerseth as Mother Seraph; Mrs. R. Johnson as Mother Cherub; and Mrs. M. I. Adeoye as Mother Captain in place of Miss Abiodun who had been separated from the Church. In December 1931, the Holy Order won a court case restraining the Praying Band Ita Balogun from bearing the name Cherubim and Seraphim. The Holy Order however has continued to spread across the land having established at Epe (June 1930), Ajase, Shaki and Oke Ogun (Sept. 1933). Orimolade departed Daddy Alaja in September 1933 for Ojokoro. He lived briefly at Osholake Street, Ebute- Metta on his way to Ojokoro. Baba finally moved on the 5th October, 1933 to Ojokoro farm of Late Revd. D. J. Oguntolu. On 11th of October, 1933 Baba blessed Onanuga and wore him one of his garments and showed him as his able successor. On Thursday, 19th October 1933, at 3:00am in the midst of his disciples, Baba breathe his last breath and was laid to rest at Ojokoro on 20th October, 1933. HISTORY OF THE 2ND BABA ALADURA, ELDER ABRAHAM WILLIAMS ONANUGA - GORAH (1933-1946) Elder Abraham Williams Onanuga was born at Atikori Ijebu-Igbo in February 1873 to the family of Mr. Onanubi of Ijebu Ode and Princess Ademotun daughter of Fidipote of Ijebu Ode. He attended Anglican elementary school Ijebu Igbo after which he joined the Native Authority Police Force in Ijebu Ode. From there he left for Lagos to become a paid Lay-Reader at Holy Trinity, Ebute- Ero. After a while, he pulled out of the Anglican Missionary Church to start his own evangelistic mission in Agege where he was preaching the gospel and healing the sick. Not too long, he became a disciple of Baba Moses Orimolade by February 1926, in company of Elder D. Onanaiye, they established the Holy Order at Agege and Egba district. Elder Onanuga was of the first four Apostles to be ordained by the founder on the 4th of April 1928 along with Apostles Bada, Afonja and Fakoleti. On 11th October, 1933, Baba Orimolade blessed Elder Onanuga and wore him one of his garments and showed him as his able successor. Elder Abraham Williams Onanuga was inducted as the Baba Aladura on the 24th of December 1933 by the Advisory Board led by Elder J. O. Coker. Consequently, Baba Aladura Onanuga went to stay at Enu Owa (Richard Lane, Lagos). Under his leadership Baba Onanuga made frantic efforts to reconcile all factions of the Holy Order. The Praying Band led by Ezekiel Davies agreed to work in the unification with the Eternal Sacred Order of the Cherubim and Seraphim. Premised on this agreement, Baba Abraham Onanuga went back to Ita Balogun, the old Headquarters of the Praying Band, which Baba Moses Orimolade departed in 1929. In 1935, Elder Gabriel Ogunyadi observed that the members of the Eternal Sacred Order of the Cherubim and Seraphim were disintegrating. The Ilajes were no more coming to National Conference. The same thing happened to Dahomeians (Benin Republic). Even the members in Lagos area have all scattered in the Lagos Island, only Elder Ogunyadi, who was the leader of Ita Balogun remained, Elder Adebulewo had gone to Ijebu. Elder Ogunyadi approached Baba Aladura Onanuga and sought permission to start worshipping in the name of Eternal Sacred Order of the Cherubim and Seraphim. Baba Aladura Onanuga granted him the permission. Unfortunately, at one of the said services conducted by Elder Ogunyadi, a member from Ita Balogun sent the late Baba Aladura S. A. Adewunmi to stop the service been conducted by Elder Ogunyadi. This resulted in a fracas, so Ogunyadi decided not to be part of the Unification any longer. He went to Ojokoro and requested the leader, Elder Peter Omojola should come and lead his own faction of the Eternal Sacred Order of the Cherubim and Seraphim. They hired a room at Hotonou in Lagos for their worship. With this division, there was four factions in Lagos.
  • The Eternal Sacred Order of Cherubim and Seraphim led by Baba Aladura Onanuga
  • The Eternal Sacred Order of Cherubim and Seraphim led by Peter Omojola
  • The Praying Band of Cherubim and Seraphim led by E. A. Davies
  • The Cherubim and Seraphim Society led by Abiodun Emmanuel
To propel reconciliation, the four groups were invited to Abeokuta by the Alake of Egba Land who after hearing from all sides of the Cherubim and Seraphim advised that:
  • Baba Aladura Onanuga be recognised as the only BABA ALADURA
  • Elder E. A. Davies should be regarded as a Leader
  • Captain Abiodun Emmanuel to be regarded as Mother
This terms of settlement did not grant any position to Ogunyadi group. The Unification between the Eternal Sacred Order of the Cherubim and Seraphim led by Baba Aladura Onanuga and Cherubim and Seraphim Society led by Abiodun Emmanuel continued steadfastly until death of Baba Aladura Onanuga in 1946. The late Apostle General Rufus who helped to establish the Odi-Olowo branch of the Eternal Sacred Order of the Cherubim and Seraphim was originally a member of the Cherubim and Seraphim Society. Towards the end of 1936, the agreement was broken by the Praying Band of the Cherubim and Seraphim. Baba Onanuga departed Lagos for Ebute-Metta to stay with his son in Kano Street. He later relocated the Branch to Obasa house at the junction of Strachan and Ibadan Street (Olopo Merin) and later moved to Bola Street, Ebute Metta. The Holy Order grew strong and waged war against the evil societies around them including the Alawo cult members, Oloros, Egungun, worshippers of Sango and Obatala, the witches and wizards. In February 1937, Baba Aladura Onanuga ordained the second eight Elders as Apostles of the Holy Order. Membership had grown to an extent that tenants in Oguntolu’s house at Bola Street, Ebute Metta could no longer move freely. Oguntolu then gave the Holy Order a piece of land at No. 75 Ibadan Street, Ebute Metta (East), free of charge. Baba Aladura Onanuga laid foundation of the Prayer House at No. 75 Ibadan Street, Ebute Metta on 8th February 1937. The building was completed and dedicated on 8th July 1942. He named it “Mount Zion House of Prayer”. This Prayer House then became the General Headquarters of the Eternal Sacred Order of the Cherubim and Seraphim. Baba Onanuga organized the Holy Lamb (Sept. 1937), Aladura Ojojumo Band (July 1942), Atupa ti Olorun Tan Band (July 1944) and Ifeloju Band (July, 1945). Baba Aladura Onanuga popularized the use of incense, consecration and blessing of oil and most of the prayer gowns of different grades were designed during his reign. He introduced most of the anointed ranks of the Order. As a matter of fact, he introduced the Order Booklet for liturgical practices. In April 1946, Baba Aladura Abraham Onanuga slept in the Lord. When he was about to breathe his last breathe only the female members were with him, namely: Mother Robert, Mother Seton, Mother Captain Wade and few others. They inquired from him about his successor and he told them that out of the three most senior elders namely: Elder J. O. Coker, Elder Amodu Adewunmi and Elder J. S. Olugbusi, the spirit had chosen the youngest, Elder Amodu Adewunmi. He then gave up the ghost and was laid to rest at Apena Cemetery. HISTORY OF THE 3RD BABA ALADURA, ELDER SAMUEL AMODU ADEWUNMI - ARONIJAH (1946-1957) Elder Samuel Amodu Adewunmi was born in 1892 at Onilegbale, Lagos Island and was raised up at Isale Eko, Lagos. He attended UNA School, Ebute-Metta. He worked with the Nigeria Railway Corporation from 1913 and retired in 1935. Baba Adewunmi was one of the pioneers of the Seraphim Church in 1925. He and Elder S. N. Ajose were Moslem Fishermen who became disciples of Baba Moses Orimolade.. Elder Adewunmi was of the second sect of Apostles ordained on 4th February 1937 at No. 70 Bola Street, Ebute-Metta. He succeeded late Baba Aladura Onanuga and was inducted as Baba Aladura by the Advisory Board led by Elder J. S. Olugbusi on the 28th of December, 1946. During his reign as the Baba Aladura, Elder Adewunmi organized the Blessed Isrealite Band in November 1947. On the 5th of December 1947, he wrote and cautioned the Secretary of the Ibadan Unification Conference, Mr. Oladeinde, for their failure to abide by the standing resolution of the Holy Order. He re-introduced the General Conference of the Holy Order in December 1948 which had been consistently done till then. His reign witnessed a lot of expansion of the Holy Order. The Church was established in May 1949 at Enugu and Onitsha. It spread to Aba, Port-Harcourt, Calabar, Owerri, Umuahia, Diobu, Degema, Ahoada, Okrika, and all Eastern Districts and Mid-Western Region - Benin, Esan, Iruekpen, Sapele, etc. There had been a message way back that the Holy Order should not organize any harvest as Anniversary, that when the time comes, the Holy Order will be spiritually directed on what to do. In 1949, through spiritual direction Baba Aladura Adewunmi established Adoption Thanksgiving for the Holy Order. As the church progressed, the Holy Order was established in Ghana as No. 12 Cap 156 Company Ordinance, Ghana. In the month of November 1949, he organized the Egbe Ore Ofe. The Baba Aladura organised a Sub-conference in July 1950 and in October of the same year, Egbe Ogo Oluwa was organised. Baba Aladura Adewunmi organized the Eastern Conference in May 1953. In June 1957, Baba Aladura Adewunmi dedicated the Church at No. 62A Rufai Street, Surulere. The Church later broke away from the Holy Order and is now the headquarters of Morning Star (established by late Father E. Olu Coker). Baba Aladura Adewunmi enjoyed the last supper with eleven elders at his residence at No. 66, Ibadan Street, Ebute-Metta (East) on Wednesday night, 25th September, 1957. On the 28th September 1957, he slept in the Lord at Ebute-Metta but had earlier instructed Elders to take him to Ojokoro for Interment. He was aged 65 years. HISTORY OF THE 4TH BABA ALADURA, ELDER JOSIAH SOYEMI OLUGBUSI - AJAGUNGBADE (1957-1973) Elder Josiah Soyemi Olugbusi was born in 1877 to a noble family in Ekiti and his father finally settled in Shagamu, Ogun State. His mother, a Princess of the Owa of Ilesha, died when he was three years old. Elder J. S. Olugbusi therefore spent his early life farming with his father and started schooling at a very old age. His father died when he was in College and he experienced a lot of hardship during his early life assisted by only his two elder brothers. When he left school, he became a teacher in the Methodist School and later became a Tax Collector which he did for many years until Twenty-Two of them were involved in a serious case. He was the only one set free out of all after which he decided to become a trader. Baba Olugbusi married his wives Captain E. F. Olugbusi in 1918. That marriage was blessed with five children – four boys and a daughter. As a trader, during the course of his usual trip to Lagos to buy merchandise for his trades, he came in contact with the founder, Baba Moses Orimolade Tunolase, who was then living at Agoshofin, Lagos. This was before the Holy Order was named Seraph in September 1925. As he was not resident in Lagos, his membership was not well known to several people. In 1927, he relocated to Lagos and became a regular member at Bible Class under H. A. Philips. He was in fact the Secretary of the Bible Class. He held this post until 1929 when there was schism in the Holy Order and H. A. Philips and others left the fold to form their own sect. Elder J.S. Olugbusi refused to follow H. A. Philips. Out of about 1,500 member of that Bible Class only himself and his family opted to follow the founder, Baba Moses Orimolade Tunolase when the group seceded in May 1929. Elder J.S. Olugbusi was the Secretary to the Holy Order when the founder died and he wrote to the Permanent Secretary of the former Ministry of Lagos Affairs in 1933 reporting the death of the founder, Saint Moses Orimolade Tunolase, and the subsequent appointment of Elder A. W. Onanuga, as his successor. In 1954, he was appointed the first Senior Apostle General of the Holy Order. In that capacity, he carried out the administration of the Order and did a lot to organize the various administrative units – District Councils and Provincial Councils. As General Secretary to the Holy Order, he was instrumental to the compilation in a booklet form of the Rules and Regulation of the Holy Order, usually referred to as “The Order, Rules and Regulations and duties of Workers”. He also did a lot of spiritual work and made several missionary journeys particularly to the riverine areas of Western State of Nigeria. Elder J.S. Olugbusi was the Senior Apostle General and Secretary to the Holy Order when the mantle of leadership fell on him. However, a visioner delivered a message that “no Baba Aladura should be ordained until 3 years, 3 months, 3 weeks, and 3 days after the death of the Baba Aladura”. Elder J.S. Olugbusi faithfully held unto God and was acting as Baba Aladura for 3 years, 3 months, 3 weeks, and 3 days until he was subsequently inducted as the Baba Aladura in December 1960 at the Mount Zion General Headquarters of the Eternal Sacred Order of the Cherubim and Seraphim. He held the post until the Board was re-constituted in 1961 and he became the first Baba Aladura of the re-constituted Advisory Board of the Eternal Sacred Order of the Cherubim and Seraphim in 1962. During his tenure of office as Baba Aladura, he ordained Elder G.A. Ogunyadi as the first Deputy Baba Aladura and Elder J.O. Coker as the Senior Apostle General in December 1962. The following Bands and ranks were created by Baba Olugbusi: Army of Christ Band, Supervising Apostle and Mary as anointed cadres and the post of the Chancellor. As a result of the Executive Crisis in Ebute-Metta in 1967, Baba Aladura J.S. Olugbusi moved the Headquarters of the Holy Order to No. 20 Pearse Street, Surulere, Lagos. He died on Holy Trinity Sunday, 17th June 1973 and was buried at Oko-Oba, Agege. HISTORY OF THE 5TH BABA ALADURA, ELDER GABRIEL ADEBOWALE OGUNYADI (1973-1985) Baba Aladura Gabriel Ogunyadi was born on the 14th of September, 1894 to the family of Chief Fasanya Ogunyadi and his wife Madam Ibironke Ogunyadi of Ita Olugbawo Compound in Odogbolu, Ogun State. His mother died when he was eight years old and was brought to Lagos at the age of ten years to stay with a Serrialeonean family, Mr. and Mrs. Elliot who sent him to popular Faji School in Lagos in 1905. When he finished standard Six in 1913, some Europeans took him and others for training. After which he started work with the then P.W.D. While there, he became a disciple of Baba Aladura Moses Orimolade Tunolase. In 1929, the P.W.D. wanted him to go to Enugu on transfer, he met with Baba Aladura Moses Orimolade for spiritual guidance concerning the issue. Baba Orimolade told him to resign and come to stay with him to be praying for people who needed prayers. That God will grant him a better job in Lagos. He diligently obeyed God and later got a job at the Nigeria Ports Authority. Elder G. A. Ogunyadi got married to one Miss Juliana Adeola Ogunsanya in 1945. They were blessed with two children Esther Oluwatosin and Gabriel Olumuyiwa Ogunyadi. When his wife Juliana died, he got married to Deborah Omolara Ogunyadi (Nee Williams) who was a Mother-In-Israel before her death in 1991. During the reign of Baba Aladura Onanuga, Elder Ogunyadi was worshipping first at Richard Lane and later at No. 10 Hotonou Street in Lagos where they made Peter Omojola Baba Aladura. The group under Elder Ogunyadi later dismissed Peter Omojola as Baba Aladura. The group then moved to Martins Street; then to King George V. Street; thereafter to Macarthy Street; and finally to Idi-Oro Court, Lagos. He continued in the Eternal Way until he was invited for the reconstitution of the Advisory Board in 1961. After the reconstitution of the Advisory Board in 1961, Elder J.S. Olugbusi was inducted as the Baba Aladura and he ordained Elder G.A. Ogunyadi as the first Deputy Baba Aladura to the Holy Order in December 1962. Baba Ogunyadi was a Spiritualist to the core and a faithful Elder of Eternal. When Elder J.S. Olugbusi passed away in 1973, Elder G. A. Ogunyadi was ordained the 5th Baba Aladura on December 3rd 1973 at Memorial Prayer House, Idi-Oro Court, Lagos. During his reign as Baba Aladura, the temporary Headquarters of the Holy Order was moved from No. 20 Pearse Street, Surulere to 9/11 Pearse Street, Surulere in 1974. In 1975, the New York Branch of the Order was established and also the 50th Anniversary of the Holy Order was celebrated at City Hall. In the year 1980, some Provincial Councils like Nkwerre, Orlu, Sapele and Etche were established and also on the 19th December, 1980, the London Branch was established. In 1981, the foundation of Mount Zion Cathedral at 38, Tejuosho Street, Surulere was laid while the Ngor-Okpala Provincial Council was established in 1982. On the 3rd of December, 1982, the Mount Zion Cathedral was dedicated by the Baba Aladura G.A. Ogunyadi assisted by the Senior Apostle General G.I.M. Otubu and other top elders. On the 1st of August, 1985, the London Cathedral, Mount of Salvation was officially opened. It is on record that Baba Aladura G. A. Ogunyadi spiritually composed one of the greatest Hymns of the Holy Order - Hymn No. 196 “Moses Orimolade is our Great Teacher”. Elder G. A. Ogunyadi slept in the Lord on the 7th day of October, 1985 and was buried at Oko-Oba, Agege, Lagos State. HISTORY OF THE 6TH BABA ALADURA, ELDER (DR) GODFREY ITSE MENE OTUBU (1986-2004) Elder (Dr) Godfrey Itse Mene Otubu was born on February 24th, 1924 to Chief Otubu Uweva of Oghara in Ethiope West L. G. He had his primary Education in Oghara and Secondary Education at Abbot Institute Sapele. He did his Accountancy Training with School of Accountancy London and had an early working experience with Beta Shoe Company from 1914 – 1951 starting from Benin City. He joined the Loans Board of the Ministry of Commerce in 1954 which later became part of the then Eastern Region Development Cooperation (ERDC). He served with the E.R.D.C. from 1955 – 1959 in several capacities rising to the post of Group Accountant. He joined the Federal Civil Service on 7th July, 1959 as Accountant in the Treasury. He had a distinguished career in the Service, serving in various Federal Ministries and finally retired in 1979 as Controller of Finance and Account in the Federal Ministry of Defence. After retirement, he set up a Consultancy Company “Senforce Limited”. This has since diversified into several other companies now under the Senforce Group of Companies. He was the founding Chairman of Zenith International Bank Limited. Baba Aladura (Dr) G. I. M. Otubu was married and blessed with many children and grandchildren. Born to parents who were Baptist, he started off as a member of Baptist Church but was later baptized and confirmed in the Anglican Communion. He joined the Cherubim and Seraphim Organisation in 1943 at Benin City. He was ordained Prophet in 1947 at Bar Beach, Lagos. In 1954, when he took up appointment in Enugu, he started worshipping at the Eternal Sacred Order of the Cherubim and Seraphim at Chief Agbor Street, Asata, Enugu. He started all over again from the beginning as Aladura and rose through the ranks and he was ordained Apostle in 1959. In the East, he worked tirelessly with others to propagate the gospel of Jesus Christ and to spread the doctrine of Holy Order. These include - converting new members to the Holy Order, building Prayer Houses and opening new branches. When wearing of garments was seen by other people as an anathema, he was not ashamed to carry the cross in his sparkling white to propagate the gospel of Christ. Noticing a striking lack of uniformity in the way Officers of the Holy Order were conducting Church services, Elder Otubu wrote and caused to be published, a booklet titled “Explanatory Note” which sought to standardize the Order of worship and it is still in use till today. He also published a guide titled “Duties of Workers for all Officers of the Holy Order” on matters of conduct in and out of office and on questions of propriety and decorum in behaviours. When he arrived in Lagos in 1959, he worshiped at Rufia Street, Surulere with Elder E. Olu-Coker who had been their leader in the Eastern Region and from there he was introduced to Baba Aladura Olugbusi at Mount Zion General Headquarters, Ebute-Metta. In 1961, he was admitted as member of the Executive Committee by the Baba Aladura after the decision of the High Court in Suit No. 194/59. The Advisory Board was reconstituted by all the surviving subscribers. Mount Zion General Headquarters and Idi-Oro Court came together to form a formidable Advisory Board. During the 1969 crisis at Ebute-Metta, Elder Otubu along with Elders Ojo, Uwanikone, Badejo and Ayo Olugbusi were arrested and charged with murder. We thank God that they were all discharged and acquainted. Elder Otubu, under the direction of late Baba Aladura Olugbusi contributed immensely to the relocation of the National Headquarters to Surulere and almost single handedly built the Cathedral at 38 Tejuosho Road, Surulere. Elder Otubu was also instrumental in the establishment of the Holy Order in London, New York and several States in United States of America and the spread of the Holy Order throughout the world. Elder Otubu also took upon himself to translate and modernize ESOCS hymns from their traditional Yoruba into English and the compilation of such Hymns (Together with other popular Church Hymns) into a single convenient volume. As a result of his hard work and loyalty to the Church and the then Baba Aladura Olugbusi, he was ordained as the first Chancellor to the Baba Aladura. In 1961, he was appointed Secretary to the Holy Order and later ordained Senior Apostle General (SAG) in 1973, a post he held till 1985 when he was appointed Baba Aladura by the Advisory Board. After the death of Baba Aladura Ogunyadi, Elder (Dr) G. I. M. Otubu, then Senior Apostle General was appointed and inducted as the Baba Aladura on 12th September 1986 at the Mount Zion National Headquarters, Surulere, Lagos. Baba Aladura Otubu introduced the ranks of Special Senior Apostle, Apostle General and Supervising Apostle General as well as Senior Mother-In-Israel. He also established the King David Association, The Eternal Torch Bearers Association, Mount Zion Youth Society and the Eternal Sisters Association. He created the Central Management Committee (CMC) as well as Finance Committee to ensure probity, accountability and good governance in all the provinces of the Holy Order. Baba Aladura Otubu greatly enhanced the image of the Holy Order in Nigeria and abroad. He was a member of Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN); National President of the Organization of African Instituted Churches (OAIC); the International President of the Organization of African Instituted Churches with headquarters in Nairobi, Kenya and member of Nigeria Inter-Religious Council (NIREC) among others. Elder G. I. M. Otubu slept in the Lord on the 17th of November, 2004 and was buried at Oghara, Delta State. HISTORY OF THE 7TH BABA ALADURA, ELDER (DR) EMMANUEL OLUDOTUN OKEYEMI (2005-2010) Elder (Dr) Emmanuel Olutodun Okeyemi was born on August 2nd 1931 to Mr. Jacob Okeyemi of Isale-Ago, Ijebu-Omu in Odogbolu Local Government Area of Ogun State and Madam Emily Okeyemi (Nee Erinle) daughter of the then Alase of Ijebu-Ibefun in Ogun State. His parents were converts of the 7th Day Adventist. He had his primary education at St. Paul’s School, Omu-Ijebu. After a brief stay with his uncle (Late Rev. J. O. Osidere), who was then a school teacher at Epe, he came to Lagos in 1947 and stayed with his senior uncle, Mr. Timothy Okulaja (a thrift collector) who resided at Obalende in Lagos, where he continued his education and professional training. Elder E. Olu Okeyemi was encouraged to join Cherubim and Seraphim by his eldest brother, late Mr. Adebayo Okeyemi, a staunch member of C & S Oke-Ayo Igbala, a branch of the Holy Order then at No. 137, Apapa Road, Ebute-Metta at the then residence of the late Prophet Onashile. He was re-baptized into the Holy Order in 1947 and ordained as Aladura in 1948 under the leadership of Apostle Theo Anjorin of the Apapa Road branch. Baba Aladura Elder S. A. Adewunmi took a special interest in him, having spotted his spiritual gifts as a unique visioner. On one particular occasion, Baba Aladura had invited him to join other Senior Elders in a special prayer at the Mount Zion General Headquarters, 75 Ibadan Street, Ebute-Metta, during which the Elders were surprised by the accuracy of the messages revealed by God through him. This further endeared him to the Baba Aladura so much that he was prompted to ordain him as a Prophet in 1954. Elder E. Olu Okeyemi kept away from the Baba Aladura since he preferred a secular white-collar job to a spiritual job. Baba Aladura Elder S. A. Adewunmi sent for him and admonished him and challenged him to take up the work of God. As a result of persistent requests from the Districts and other regions for spiritually-gifted church workers to sustain the spiritual development and yearning of new members, the Baba Aladura then sent him to Enugu. There he worked with Elder E. Olu Coker who was leading the Evangelistic Team of the Church in the Eastern Region. He worked as a Vineyard Worker and established new branches for the Holy Order in the Region down to Edo and Delta States, from 1950 to 1954. He was ordained as an Apostle in 1956 and was baptizing and conducting Confirmation Service for new members of the Church. Towards the end of 1950’s, Elder E. Olu Okeyemi went on Pastoral tours to the Gold Coast (now Republic of Ghana) and in 1961 he was permanently transferred to oversee the Church in Ghana. He returned to Nigeria in 1964 and became the leader of the new Oke-Ayo Igbala Irapada branch of the Church, located at Baale Street, Orile Iganmu, Lagos. Along with his spiritual duties, he was a Printer by Profession, which he had started at R. T. Briscoe in Accra-Ghana. He also had a brief working experience with ASORE-MASEKA PRESS in 1965, with the support of an uncle, late Mr. Ogunwo, he established QUARTO-PRINTERS LTD and purchased an Original Heidelberg Printing Machine, which was facilitated by R. T. Briscoe Nigeria. As a result of his business acumen, he went further to establish Trans African Papers and Stationery Co. Ltd. and Okeyemi Central Enterprises. He managed these businesses along with the Church work until 1978, when as a Senior Apostle, he was spiritually chosen to lead the Mount Zion General Headquarters at 75, Ibadan Street, Ebute – Metta (East). Before and during this period he paid regular visits to Ghana and other West African countries. By these he played a vital role in the sustenance of the development and growth of the Holy Order in the West African coast. He visited Jerusalem as a pilgrim and the various branches of the Church in Europe including United Kingdom in the 1980s. Elder E. Olu Okeyemi is an itinerant Prophet of the Church and God has worked many miracles for this Holy Order through him. His wealth of experience and humility has endeared him to the entire membership of the Holy Order. He is recognized as a charismatic preacher and a benevolent leader. Following the peace accord within the Holy Order in 1990, he was ordained as Deputy Baba Aladura by the late Baba Aladura Dr. G. I. M. Otubu. After the glorious home-call of Baba Aladura Dr. G. I. M. Otubu and the funeral activities, Elder E. Olu Okeyemi was chosen by the Advisory Board in March 2005 and was inducted on 8th September 2005 as the Baba Aladura, Moses Orimolade VII of the Holy Order. Baba Aladura Emmanuel Oludotun Okeyemi joined the Saints triumphant on 17th September 2010 and was buried at Ijebu-Omu, Ogun State on 11th December 2010. He was survived by his wife, children and grandchildren. THE HISTORY AND REIGN OF 9TH BABA ALADURA ELDER (DR.) DAVID DABAYE LAMJOSE BOB-MANUEL (2017 – TILL DATE) Elder (Dr.) David D. L. Bob-Manuel was born on 12th March 1941 in Abonnema, Akuku – Toru Local Government Area of Rivers State, to the union of late Chief Iboroma Lamjose Bob-Manuel and late Mrs. Oruba Toru Bob-Manuel (Nee Reuben-Jack), both of whom were from Abonnema, Kalabari Kingdom, Rivers State. Elder Dr. D. L. Bob-Manuel was the first of 10 children in the family and he is popularly called - “D. L. Bob” by both old and young. His late father was a Chief in Kalabari and worked with the Nigerian Ports Authority (NPA). His late mother was the daughter of the proud Reuben-Jack of the War Canoe House, one of the foremost families in Kalabari Kingdom, but she passed away when Elder D. L. Bob was about 7 years old, leaving him with a sister. Elder Dr. David D. L Bob-Manuel had his primary school education at the Bishop Crowther Memorial Primary School, Abonnema and proceeded to Zixton Grammar School, Ozubulu, in the present day Anambra State. He obtained a Diploma in Public Administration and Finance from the University of London in 1966. After his secondary education, Elder Bob-Manuel secured a Federal Government employment with the Posts and Telecommunications (P&T) in 1963. By providence, he was selected to attend a management course in Britain just before the Nigerian civil war broke out. His trust in God, humility, open handedness and free heart saw him through the civil service for ten years, during which he served in Ibadan, Onitsha and Enugu. He thereafter gained employment with the then Shell BP in 1973, where he was sponsored for several courses in Account Management, Supervisory Management, Effective Communication etc. and rose to the rank of Senior Contract Analyst when he retired in 2004. He was also conferred with Fellow of the Strategic Finance and Administrative Institute, Lagos. Due to his propensity for excellence in Shell BP, he was made to hold sensitive positions such as Banking Accountant, Assistant to the Controller, and Secretary to the Divisional Tenders Board of the Company. In 1996, he was among the management committee members that initiated the Shell Contractors Registration Centre (CRAC). He led the team to handle and monitor all Contractors’ Registration Processes in the now Shell Petroleum Development Company (SPDC). Baba Bob-Manuel married his wife and heartthrob, Prophetess Elsie Bob-Manuel, who was already a member of the Eternal Sacred Order of the Cherubim and Seraphim, Abonnema branch in 1967. She is an educationist and a strong believer in the God of Cherubim and Seraphim. The marriage is blessed with seven children, all of whom have remained members of the Eternal Sacred Order of the Cherubim and Seraphim. Elder Dr. David D. L Bob-Manuel was born into the Anglican (Communion) Church, where he was baptized and christened, “David”. He faithfully served God there until 1955 when he was just captivated by the way of worship and therefore joined the Church, the Eternal Sacred Order of the Cherubim and Seraphim in Enugu and was re-baptized by immersion. From that very moment, his commitment to things of God has never wavered as he never allowed his education or civil life to interfere with his worship of God. In fact, for Baba Bob-Manuel, the popular Chorus, “I will do the work of God before my own”, is his watchword. This also endeared him to his superiors and admirers, leading to his meritorious rise in the Holy Order. Elder David Bob-Manuel rose through the ranks from King Solomon in 1957 to his present position in the Holy Order as the Prelate and Baba Aladura on 7th September, 2017. He got his first administrative appointment in the Holy Order in 1971 as the Secretary of Port Harcourt Province under the Chairmanship of Senior Apostle T. S Agolia. He was thereafter appointed the Secretary of CMC 2 in 1979 under the headship of the immediate past Baba Aladura Dr. L. A. Onyeleonu. He became the Chairman of Port Harcourt Province in 1986. In 1997, Elder Dr. David D. L Bob-Manuel was admitted into the Advisory Board of the Holy Order and appointed as Director of training. Elder D.L Bob-Manuel was appointed Secretary to the Holy Order in 2001 and Senior Apostle General in 2004 Late Baba Aladura Dr. GIM Otubu. In 2013, late Baba Aladura (Dr.) L. A.
