Baba Aladura
Elder Samuel Amodu Adewunmi was born in 1892 at Onilegbale, Lagos Island and was raised up at Isale Eko, Lagos. He attended UNA School, Ebute-Metta. He worked with the Nigeria Railway Corporation from 1913 and retired in 1935.
Baba Adewunmi was one of the pioneers of the Seraphim Church in 1925. He and Elder S. N. Ajose were Moslem Fishermen who became disciples of Baba Moses Orimolade.. Elder Adewunmi was of the second sect of Apostles ordained on 4th February 1937 at No. 70 Bola Street, Ebute-Metta. He succeeded late Baba Aladura Onanuga and was inducted as Baba Aladura by the Advisory Board led by Elder J. S. Olugbusi on the 28th of December, 1946.
During his reign as the Baba Aladura, Elder Adewunmi organized the Blessed Isrealite Band in November 1947. On the 5th of December 1947, he wrote and cautioned the Secretary of the Ibadan Unification Conference, Mr. Oladeinde, for their failure to abide by the standing resolution of the Holy Order. He re-introduced the General Conference of the Holy Order in December 1948 which had been consistently done till then.
His reign witnessed a lot of expansion of the Holy Order. The Church was established in May 1949 at Enugu and Onitsha. It spread to Aba, Port-Harcourt, Calabar, Owerri, Umuahia, Diobu, Degema, Ahoada, Okrika, and all Eastern Districts and Mid-Western Region - Benin, Esan, Iruekpen, Sapele, etc.
There had been a message way back that the Holy Order should not organize any harvest as Anniversary, that when the time comes, the Holy Order will be spiritually directed on what to do. In 1949, through spiritual direction Baba Aladura Adewunmi established Adoption Thanksgiving for the Holy Order.
As the church progressed, the Holy Order was established in Ghana as No. 12 Cap 156 Company Ordinance, Ghana.
In the month of November 1949, he organized the Egbe Ore Ofe. The Baba Aladura organised a Sub-conference in July 1950 and in October of the same year, Egbe Ogo Oluwa was organised. Baba Aladura Adewunmi organized the Eastern Conference in May 1953. In June 1957, Baba Aladura Adewunmi dedicated the Church at No. 62A Rufai Street, Surulere. The Church later broke away from the Holy Order and is now the headquarters of Morning Star (established by late Father E. Olu Coker).
Baba Aladura Adewunmi enjoyed the last supper with eleven elders at his residence at No. 66, Ibadan Street, Ebute-Metta (East) on Wednesday night, 25th September, 1957. On the 28th September 1957, he slept in the Lord at Ebute-Metta but had earlier instructed Elders to take him to Ojokoro for Interment. He was aged 65 years.
